A short drive into Melbourne from Philip Island- a little lost and then found our very nice hotel. Very metropolitan city and very clean, easy to get around on public transit. It is the capital city in the state of Victoria with population of about 4 million (greater Melbourne, 2009 stat). Melbourne is often referred to as the Cultural Capital of Australia. People of Melbourne refer to themselves as the more sophisticated cultured sister of Sydney. People of Sydney would take issue with that but this post is about Melbourne. Explored South Yarra, had some dinner, bought some good Australian Shiraz!
