Started the day out with a visit to a Koala Nature Reserve. Had the opportunity to watch the Koalas in their natural habitat. The Koala is not a bear, but a marsupial. Females can live as long as 17 years but a male's life expectancy is less than 10 years. Koalas spend about 19 hours per day sleeping and the remaining five hours is spent gathering and eating food. Their name comes from an Aboriginal story about a boy named "Koala" who had disobeyed orders from his elders and when he felt shame for the error of his ways, he climbed up a tree and hid for the day. Because the boy behaved like the "animal in the tree", the tree animal became known as Koala.
We managed to get some very close up shots....there were also poisonous snakes around with no anti-venom, so that was fun to walk around in. Spending your time looking up in trees for Koalas while there may be snakes at your feet..... I am so adventurous!
LOL, that sign should just say 'male', it doesn't need to say koala!!
